오는 12일 싱가포르에서 열리는 북미 정상회담의 개최 시각이 오전 9시로 확정돼 도널드 트럼프 대통령과 김정은 북한 국무위원장이 역사적인 첫 대면을 하게 됐다.

트럼프 미국 대통령과 김정은 북한 국무위원장의 북미 정상회담이 싱가포르에서 6월 12일 오전 9시, 미국 동부시간 11일 오후 9시에 시작한다고 백악관이 밝혔다. 한국시간으로 북미 정상회담 시간은 12일 오전 10시에 열린다.

샌더스 백악관 대변인은 4일(현지시각) 오후 2시 42분 정례 브리핑에서 “6월 12일 트럼프 대통령과 김정은 위원장 간의 정상회담을 적극 준비하고 있다. 싱가포르의 선발대는 물류 준비를 마무리하고 있으며 정상회담이 시작될 때까지 자리를 지킬 것”이라며 “비무장지대(DMZ)에서 미국 대사의 대표단은 북한 대표단과 외교적 협상을 계속하고 있고, 토론은 매우 긍정적이었고, 상당한 진전이 있었다(we are actively preparing for the June 12 summit between the President and the North Korean leader. The advance team in Singapore is finalizing logistical preparations and will remain in place until the summit begins. In the DMZ, the U.S. Ambassador’s delegation continues diplomatic negotiations with the North Korean delegation. Discussions have been very positive, and significant progress has been made)”고 말했다.

샌더스 대변인은 김정은 위원장의 친서 내용이 무엇인지를 묻는 취재진의 질문에는 “친서에 대한 자세한 내용은 언급할 없지만, 트럼프 대통령이 말한 것처럼, 흥미로웠고, 일이 계속해서 진행되고 있으며 좋은 진전이 이루어졌다고 느낀다. 북미 정상회담에 대한 준비를 계속하고 있다. 트럼프 대통령은 국가안보팀으로부터 북한에 대한 브리핑을 매일 받아 왔으며, 그 첫 번째 만남의 일정은 싱가포르 시간 6월 12일 오전 9시, 미국 동부시간으로 6월 11일 오후 9시에 있을 예정(I’m not going to get into the specifics of the letter. But as the President said, they were interesting, and we feel like things are continuing to move forward and good progress has been made. And we’re continuing to prepare for the President’s summit. I can tell you the President has been receiving daily briefings on North Korea from his national security team. 또 블라디미르 푸틴 대통령이 김정은 위원장과 만나는 것에 대해 지지하는지를 묻는 질문에는 “우리는 트럼프 대통령과 김정은 위원장의 만남에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 그리고 싱가포르에서 트럼프 대통령의 견해를 김정은 위원장에게 직접 알릴 것이다. 그리고 우리는 계속해서 비핵화에 초점을 맞출 것(Our focus is on the President’s meeting with Kim Jong Un. And the President will make his views known directly to him when we’re in Singapore. And our focus will continue to be on denuclearization)”이라고 말했다.

한편, 6월 12일 싱가포르에서 북미 정상회담 장소로는 샹그릴라 호텔과 센토사섬 카펠라호텔 등이 유력한 것으로 알려지고 있다.
